Service, Leadership, and the Ballot: Rho Xi Lambda Looks at the 2026 U.S. Senate Race

Author: Chapter Communications Committee |

Leadership is not a title you wear; it is a responsibility you live out every single day. Here at the Rho Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., our mission remains fixed on a simple, powerful directive: First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All.

As we look at the current needs of our local community, our brotherhood is more focused than ever on turning our foundational principles into tangible, local action. Part of that action means staying informed, staying engaged, and understanding the choices before us on the ballot.

Action on the Ground: Our Strategic Focus

True community impact requires a strategy that goes beyond rhetoric. To ensure our efforts create lasting change, the chapter is actively focusing on three core pillars:

1. Youth Mentorship and Education

Our commitment to the next generation is unwavering. Through targeted mentorship programs, we are working to provide young men with the tools, guidance, and academic encouragement they need to navigate modern challenges and excel.

2. Infrastructure & Innovation: The S.T.E.P. Initiative

Advancement requires modern tools. We are closely monitoring and supporting the expansion of regional infrastructure projects like the S.T.E.P. Hub (Strategic Technology & Economic Performance). By integrating robust digital platforms like NationBuilder and SharePoint, this hub is designed to streamline workforce technology and shift the focus from traditional supplier diversity to active supplier development. Ensuring our communities have access to these technical advancements is vital for long-term economic growth.

3. Civic Engagement and Advocacy

An informed community is an empowered community. With the general election approaching on November 3, 2026, we are continuing our efforts to promote voter education, registration, and civic awareness across our service areas.

The 2026 U.S. Senate Race: A Brotherhood Connection

This year, Mississippi voters have a critical choice to make for the United States Senate. The race features three distinct candidates, and notably, two of the challengers seeking to represent our state are men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

While the incumbent, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, relies on her deep alignment with federal conservative leadership, Brothers Scott Colom and Ty Pinkins are both bringing platforms centered on service, public safety, and rural investment to the table. Brother Colom is leveraging his legal background as a prosecutor to fight for healthcare and worker opportunities, while Brother Pinkins is continuing his lifelong record of service by launching an aggressive 82-county grassroots town hall tour.

As a non-partisan organization, Alpha Phi Alpha does not endorse specific candidates, but we fiercely endorse the democratic process and the excellence of men who commit their lives to public service.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
