Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York — the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
Founded by seven men who came to be known as the Jewels, Alpha Phi Alpha has chartered chapters at colleges, universities, and alumni communities across the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Brothers of Alpha have included Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Justice Thurgood Marshall, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Andrew Young, and many others who shaped the American century.
The Rho Xi Lambda Chapter was chartered in Canton, Mississippi on October 7, 2004. As an alumni chapter, our work is the steady, unglamorous work of brotherhood — showing up for the community we live in, the schools that raised many of us, and the next generation of brothers coming behind us.
